Three Star Ranch services include therapy and experiential learning with horses in a natural herd environment. We partner with horses because they are innately curious and capable of engaging in genuine relationships and partnerships with humans. These relationships offer each the opportunity to go beyond verbal communication into connections that are deeper than words.
Our focus is not about horsemanship or using the horse as a tool for our healing. As prey animals, horses are highly sensitive by nature and rely on subtle, integrated communication to understand their world. We respect the unique differences between horses and humans with the aim of creating partnerships that transform, open up possibilities and offer healing for all.
The curriculum for the Three Star Ranch program was developed by Dr. Newman through qualitative research and partnerships/participation with multiple foundational programs. These include, but are not limited to, the ASPCA Right Horse Program; the OK Corral Program/Greg Kersten; Natural Lifemanship Institute, Brenham, Texas; the California Horse Center at Flag is Up Farms, Solvang, CA; and the Equine Psychotherapy Institute, Victoria, Australia; Dr. Nadira Pardo/University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
Dr. Newman has published on the use of equine-assisted therapies and has participated in educational seminars, workshops and advocacy for the field both in the U.S. and abroad. Contact us for more information about current offerings.
