Dr. Allison Newman is a licensed Marriage  and Family Therapist and Doctor of Psychology. She is a passionate advocate for patients and believes that the field of mental health focuses too heavily on pathology and finding ways to explain and define it. Dr. Newman believes that even when things are at their worst, people are usually trying to do the best they know how. She believes that people do not typically have unconscious or ulterior motives for their symptoms but rather are not adept at using skills or positive coping mechanisms to manage their symptoms and experiences. With a shift in perspective and identifying their strengths, people can drastically change their circumstances and outcomes. She places an emphasis on patterns and themes that show up in client's lives instead of placing a focus on the person as "the problem."

Her focus is on empowering people to create healthy relationships and a life that works. This includes positive relationships with self and others, as well as the development of better coping, life management and problem-solving skills. On a personal note, Dr. Newman is happily married to her husband Tom. Both are longtime residents of central Ohio. They reside on a horse farm with three equine therapy partners, two Dalmatians and a menagerie of nearby wildlife. Dr. Newman has served on the board of directors for several local mental health agencies and currently serves on the executive board of an equine rescue and adoption center in Lexington, Kentucky.
